The 27-year-old represented England at the youth level, winning the FIFA U-20 World Cup with the young Three Lions in 2017.

The winger however switched allegiance to Nigeria in February 2022, and made his Super Eagles debut in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Ghana one month later.

Lookman represented Nigeria for the first time in a major tournament at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire early this year.

The former Leicester City player made a big impact at the competition, scoring three goals and providing one assist in seven appearances.

The tricky winger was also named in the Team of the Tournament.

Lookman said playing for Nigeria has been a remarkable experience for him.

“It was massive for me because that was really a big turning point in my career. Ever since I’ve put on the Super Eagles jersey, it has been fruitful,” he told Sporty TV.

“We have been able to achieve together as a team and we are still growing as a team. The togetherness of the team is something that is very special within the squad.

“We showed that in the last AFCON, we got to the final but unfortunately we came up a bit short.”
