The Premier League on Monday night, released a statement explaining why the Video Assistant Referee, VAR, intervened to ensure Chelsea were not denied their first goal in the 3-1 victory over Wolves.

The ball deflected into Tosin Adarabioyo’s path and he swept home in a crowded penalty area.

The linesman immediately raised his flag to wave for offside But the goal was given after a VAR review.

The Premier League has now confirmed that Tosin was played onside by Matheus Cunha in a statement.

It read: “The referee’s call of no goal was checked by VAR, who determined that Tosin was in an onside position and recommended that the goal was awarded.”

Sky Sports commentator Alan Smith broke the incident down, saying: “Tosin does well to react and control the ball on his thigh and dispatch the finish.

“He’s not one of the likely ones you would expect to score. Matheus Cunha on the far side played him onside when Reece James let fly.”

Tosin now has three goals in as many games for Chelsea after scoring twice in their FA Cup win against Morecambe.

Chelsea were pegged back right on the stroke of half-time, as Matt Doherty poked home the ball after a Robert Sanchez error.

But Marc Cucurella and Noni Madueke scored to seal the win.
